Welcome to the Girl Scouts of the Commonwealth of Virginia (GSCV) blog! We are so thrilled you're here.


Since 1913 (yes, we're 110 years young!), we've helped build girls of courage, confidence, and character throughout central Virginia. Our Council is comprised of some of the best Girl Scouts, leaders, and volunteers this Movement has to offer. And we may be biased, but we believe we're THE. BEST. COUNCIL. EVER! 

With the launch of our GSCV blog, our hope is that the inspiring stories of all our Girl Scout troops, their projects, and the memories they make together extend beyond the bounds of the Commonwealth of Virginia. There are thousands of Girl Scouts who are bravely tackling community issues with their Bronze, Silver, and Gold Award projects, and troops who commit to building the world they want to see. Whether it's through Cookie Season or Girl Scout Resident Camp, our girls are always taking action to push boundaries and show themselves and this world what they're made of. And we're excited to share their stories with you.

Here, you'll be able to read updates from our CEO, Molly T. Fuller, announcements from our Council,  stories of the incredible Girl Scouts who make up this Movement, spotlights from our Highest Awards, and so much more.

It's no secret that our incredible Girl Scout Volunteers help make this Movement strong! They devote countless hours and endless creativity to making sure Girl Scouting is a memorable experience for every girl. We're excited to introduce you to the Volunteer Corner of the GSCV blog; here is where you get to meet the people who are an irreplaceable part of our organization.  Today, we're excited to highlight Alissa Poole! She's been a Girl Scout Volunteer for over ten years, and has led her daughter's troop through many adventures, thousands of cookies sold, and endless opportunities to connect with their community.    Alissa Poole (left) and her co-leader, Anne Kush, from their 2022 camping trip. Q : What made you want to become a Girl Scout volunteer?  A : I’ve always volunteered with my kids’ activities and was active with the PTA at that time. I told my daughter I would lead the troop if no other parents signed up. I think that’s how many of us got our start. 😉

GSCV Celebrates 110 Years of Excellence at our 110 Rally!

Cheers to 110 Years!  Thank you to everyone who joined us on June 10, 2023, in celebration of our 110th Anniversary Rally. The weather was beautiful, the excitement was in the air, and the spirit of Girl Scouting was felt all throughout Camp Pamunkey Ridge. What a great time to be a part of THE. BEST. COUNCIL. EVER! We cannot believe it’s been 110 years of serving girls in the Commonwealth of Virginia. We think back to that very first troop formed in Highland Springs in 1913, and the courage it took to start something that had never been done for girls in Virginia. Just like our founder, Juliette Gordon Low, they were true trailblazers! GSCV has upheld that spirit of trailblazing. We’ve gone from that one troop in 1913 to serving more than 10,000 girls and volunteers across this great state. Thank you so much for joining us in our commitment to Girl Scouting.
