GSCV Celebrates 110 Years of Excellence at our 110 Rally!

Cheers to 110 Years!

Thank you to everyone who joined us on June 10, 2023, in celebration of our 110th Anniversary Rally. The weather was beautiful, the excitement was in the air, and the spirit of Girl Scouting was felt all throughout Camp Pamunkey Ridge. What a great time to be a part of THE. BEST. COUNCIL. EVER!

We cannot believe it’s been 110 years of serving girls in the Commonwealth of Virginia. We think back to that very first troop formed in Highland Springs in 1913, and the courage it took to start something that had never been done for girls in Virginia. Just like our founder, Juliette Gordon Low, they were true trailblazers! GSCV has upheld that spirit of trailblazing. We’ve gone from that one troop in 1913 to serving more than 10,000 girls and volunteers across this great state. Thank you so much for joining us in our commitment to Girl Scouting.

A few fun facts: Our first official Council meeting was held 102 years ago in 1921 at the Jefferson Hotel right in downtown Richmond. Today’s Council office and retail shop are just three miles away from where the Council first met. How amazing is that? Since then, we’ve been committed to building up girls of courage, confidence, and character, girls who are taking action to make this world a better place. It’s our girl-led programming that empowers girls to design their own experiences either with their troops or as individual Juliettes.

Whether you want to explore the Great Outdoors, become more involved in your community, or build friendships that last a lifetime, we’re proud to be the safe space where girls are free to be. We could go on and on about how our research-backed, evidence-based programming works, but what better proof of the impact of Girl Scouting than the crowd that joined us at our 110 Rally?! We were over 1,000 attendees strong!

The 110 Anniversary Rally had over 240 acres of pool splashing, canoeing, Adventure Towering, Axe Throwing, Animal Petting, Girl Scout song singing…the list was truly endless.

We also honored our awesome Stellar Sellers, Girl Scouts who’ve sold 1,000 or more packages of cookies during Cookie Season, with their very own brick on Cookie Lane.

Our Bronze Awardees got their special moment, as well. Such an important part of Girl Scouts is the opportunity to create meaningful projects that make a difference in the world around you. We took time out of our 110 Rally to show our appreciation for the many Girl Scouts who’ve completed their Bronze Award Projects and have earned the highest honor their level can earn. Bravo!

As you can see, June 10th wasn't just a celebration of our Council; it was celebration of YOU! You’re the girls, parents, caregivers, Troop Leaders, and Volunteers who continue to make this Movement a remarkable one for over a century.

Enjoy a photo recap of our BIGGEST. CELEBRATION. EVER!
